Before My Surgery

To expedite your check-in process, we need to receive your registration form prior to your procedure date.  You may complete it online (see pre-registration tab).  If not received, the Pre-Registration Department will be calling you prior to your date of service.  You may fax your registration form to 320-229-3239, attention Pre-Registration Department.  The Pre-Registration Department direct line is (320) 229-3253.



1-2 Weeks Before Surgery:

  • Stop aspirin, ibuprofen, blood thinning medications and supplements as instructed by surgeon.
  • Make arrangements for transportation home and someone to be with you for 24 hours.
  • For orthopedic and foot surgery, arrange for crutches/walker and practice with them.

Several Days Before Surgery:

  • You will receive phone calls from our pre-registration department and health history nurse.  If you take medication for diabetes, contact the Doctor who manages your diabetes for medication instructions.

 Notify Your Surgeon If:

  • You have an elevated temperature, cough, cold, vomiting or diarrhea between your last visit to the surgeon and the day of your surgery.
  • You suspect you may be pregnant.

Day Before Surgery:

  • Shower with antibacterial soap and sleep on freshly laundered linens.  Do not use any powders, lotions or perfumes.  Antiperspirant or deodorant is allowed.
  • Do not drink alcohol for at least 12 hours prior to your scheduled arrival time.
  • Do not smoke after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • You will receive a call from the scheduling department one day prior to your procedure informing you of your arrival time and when you need to stop eating and drinking.  If you have not received a call by 4:00 p.m. the day before your surgery or have additional questions please call us at (320) 251-8385 or 1-800-349-7272 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

WITH YOUR SAFETY IN MIND, we ask that you DO NOT eat or drink anything within 8 hours of your arrival time for your surgery/procedure.  You may take sips of water ONLY up to 2 hours prior to your arrival.

Plan to follow the instructions given for eating and drinking before your surgery.  It will prevent delays and possibly cancellation of your surgery.
